Postgraduate Admission Notice (All Master’s Program)

All applicants for admission into the postgraduate programs of the CSE Department are hereby informed that the admission procedure will be held according to the following schedule.

  • Admission Tests (see relevant section below) will be held.
  • The candidates will be divided into two groups (see relevant section below) and two separate admission tests, each for one group, will be conducted.
  • Admission of an applicant is subject to performance in the admission test/interview, submission and verification of documents, and equivalence of degrees.
  • The Admission Committee reserves the right to refuse admission to any student who does not comply with the admission test guideline or has adopted unfair means during the exam.
  • Applicants are advised to continuously check the admission website for updates: PG Admission April 2024.

Division of Candidates

4-year B.Sc. in CSE, EEE, CS, CE, ECE, SE, or equivalent fields. 4-year Bachelor’s degree in other engineering, mathematical sciences, natural sciences, business information systems, or related fields.

Admission Tests

For each group, admission tests will be conducted in two phases: an MCQ exam followed by a written exam. Only candidates scoring above the cut-off in the MCQ exam will have their written scripts evaluated.

MCQ Exam: 50 questions (50 marks), 50 minutes, negative marking (0.5 for each wrong answer).

Written Exam: 10 questions (100 marks), 1 hour.

Topics for Group 1 and Group 2 vary; refer to the detailed syllabus.

MCQ and Written Exam Questions

MSc (CSE), 2024

MCQ Exam: 50 questions (50 marks), 50 minutes, negative marking (0.5 for each wrong answer).

Written Exam: 10 questions (100 marks), 1 hour.

  • • Define P and NP classes. Differentiate between approximation and heuristic algorithm.
  • • Build XOR with a 2-to-4 decoder and a NOR gate.
  • • Strategy pattern has 3 algorithms: insertion sort, selection sort, and quick sort. Describe something about the system.
  • • Why is A* optimal? Give a condition when it is optimal.
  • • Main reasons for failure in software projects.
  • • What is overfitting? How to avoid it?
  • • Why is the pumping lemma only used for negative proofs?
  • • How does a DHCP attack work?
  • • Networking question: Derive subnet, host range, and network IP.
  • • Scripting code: Output derivation (Quick sort).
  • • What is a functional interface in Java? Provide an example.
  • • Predictive parsing cell entry in A ->∞ and A->∈. Describe it in terms of First and Follow.
  • • Algorithm for checking a loop in a singly linked list.
  • • Explain the length of the 1st Run and 2nd Run with probability P for 1 and Q for 0.
